It was a gloomy Sunday afternoon when the “R” family and I met at Target for out back-to-school docYOU-style session. I knew that Sandra and her daughter “S” would be there but I was both surprised and happy to see her husband Damian and their son “D”. We were shielded by our umbrellas as we made our way to the entrance. “S” and I shared the same umbrella and as we were walking she shared a fun fact with me:
S: Do you know what the largest flower in the world is?
Me: No, what is it?
S: It’s called Rafflesia.
Me: Wow, I’ve never heard of it before but it sounds like it could be someone’s name.
S: No! LOL. It’s too long to be someone’s name.
I actually looked it up when I got home and it is pretty big. She taught me something new and that’s why I love kids. NEVER UNDERESTIMATE A CHILD!
We enter Target and I begin to explain what the session will be like and Damian says “You’ll be stalking us.” and I say “pretty much”. “S” proceeds to tell me that I have to hide so they won’t see me. 😀
They set out to go school shopping and I began to photograph the experience.
I really enjoy photographing these types of sessions. I get to capture real, unposed moments between individuals. I hope that why will print these images and create an album so they can forever cherish what it was like for them to go shopping as a family.
